KC will be hosting a Preview Day on October 12th from 8:30 - 1:30. This program is for students who are interested in pursuing an Associates Degree and later transferring to a 4 year institution. Applications begin October 1st and are due November 30th for the We Know Illinois Agriculture Essay Contest. Seniors could win $1,000. To enter write and submit a 250 word essay on the topic "How would you like to see Illinois agriculture change in the next 10 years to ensure the state's strong agricultural status?" The Voice of Democracy Scholarship competition is now open for interested students in grades 9-12. Students must write and record a 3-5 minute speech on the theme "My Vision for America". Entries must be submitted on an audio CD or a flash drive. Entries are due to the local VFW before November 1st. You must include a typed copy of the speech with the entry form. Entry forms can be downloaded from the attachment below or from www.vfw.org.
The 2016 CBAI Foundation for Community Banking Annual Scholarship Program is now available. The essay Topic: 'The Importance of Community Banking Value'. Up to $4,000 in scholarships given out. Essay Requirements: 1 page, Double-Spaced, Times New Roman Font, 10-12 point size. First National Bank in Carlyle is the local sponsor. Due Feb 3, 2016 For more info, check the attachment below.
The John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest is now available. Go to www.jfklibrary.org for complete guidelines. The deadline is January 6, 2016. This is valued up to $10,000. Essays must be 700-1000 words on the given topic and must include a bibliography with 5 sources.
The Hagan Scholarship is available for seniors. To qualify you must: have a 3.5 GPA, have a 23 or higher on the ACT, must work 240 hours in the 12 months prior to the start of college, must complete the FAFSA and have an EFC less than $7500, and must be eligible for federal and state grants. Varsity Tutors holds a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest where students write an essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage are able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is subsequently chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship. Mater Dei High School will be hosting a College Night on October 7th from 6:30-8:00 on the gym annex. There are usually 30 colleges/universities and military personnel represented at this fair. The financial aid officer from Kaskaskia College will also present FAFSA and financial aid information at 6:30 and again at 7:15 in the Lampe Commons for interested parents and students. Preview SIUE is designed to provide an opportunity to high school and transfer students looking to enroll for the spring 2016 and fall 2016 terms. Preview will give you a feel for what SIUE is like and help you make an informed decision about where to attend college. You will have the opportunity to: Visit with faculty in the area of study you are thinking about pursuing; Learn about the application and admission process; Determine the cost of attending SIUE and learn how financial aid can help. Any high school student who has engaged in a volunteer activity since September 1, 2014 is eligible to complete the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program Application. The application must be completed on line and submitted by November 3rd. Winners can receive the Presidents Volunteer Service Award. State Honorees can receive $1,000.00 and all expense paid trip to Washington DC in May. National Honorees can receive $5,000.00 awards. Go to: http://spirit.prudential.com to apply.
Interested Juniors and seniors can apply for the United States Senate Youth Program. 2 students from each state are selected to go to Washington DC from March 5th to March 12th to visit the Senate, the House, the Supreme Court and the Pentagon etc. All expenses for the selected student will be paid for by the Hearst Foundation. The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship is now available. Scholarship is valued at $4,000-50,000. Due Friday Dec 4th by 9:00 AM to the Centralia Elks Lodge.
