The 2015 Future Healthcare Hero Award is now open. Applicants must be pursuing entry into any health science program for the 2015 Fall semester. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Applicants must submit the following items in their application packet: Completed and signed application and release Brief personal statement (one page) describing why you should be selected to receive this award, Transcripts, and two letters of recommendations (on organizational letterhead). Timberline Billing Service is offering a scholarship for seniors. The criteria is the following: must have an IEP and must be planning to attend college, trade school, etc. Interested students must submit an essay of 300-500 words. A representative from ISAC will be here on Oct 29 to present a short financial aid presentation to interested junior or senior parents. Program will begin at 6:30 in CHS Room 30. Kaskaskia College will be hosting an ACT Prep Workshop on Nov. 15, Nov. 22, and Dec. 6th at the Trenton Education Center from 9 - 4:30 each day. The cost is $149. There will be an additional $24 cost for students interested in taking a Pre-Test. The workshop includes: test taking strategies, sample test items, improved methods for answering questions, timed sample tests, and an ACT Test Prep Manual. Call 545-3255 for more information.

The "Profile in Courage Essay Contest" is available. The due date is January 5th. The essay must be a 700 - 1000 word essay describing an act of political courage by a US elected official that occurred during or after 1956. You must have at least 5 sources. SIUC will be hosting SAT/ACT preparation classes online. Part 1 covers mastering the reading, writing, English and science questions on the ACT and the new SAT. Part 2 will cover how to master the math questions on the ACT and the SAT. All courses consist of 12 lessons and can be accessed over the internet anytime, day or night. Each course has live instructor support and is supplemented with interactive quizzes, assignments, tutorials, and online discussion areas. Courses are offered once a month and last for six weeks..
