Seniors who are interested in applying for a nomination to one of the US Military Academies for the fall 2019 should go to web address listed below.   Acceptance of a service academy appointment requires at least a 9 year service obligation. 4 at the academy and 5 years of active-duty service. Clinton County Farm Bureau Scholarship:
Due March 15th
Major should be in agriculture, agribusiness, or an ag-related courses of study.
Be a high school graduate or graduating in 2019.
Be a Clinton County Farm Bureau member, spouse of a member or child of a member. (Minimum 1 year)
Be accepted for enrollment or be enrolled at a post-secondary school.  Good toward BS, no graduate studies.
Exhibit potential for successful completion of course study.
Be a resident of Illinois.
Not be a spouse, child, sibling, grandchild, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law of a Clinton County Farm Bureau Foundation Board member or employee.

Migratory Waterfowl Hunters, Inc.:
They are giving priority to students with an interest in Science, Biology, Conservation, and/or related fields.

IAA Foundation Scholarship Program Announcement:
The 2019 IAA Foundation Scholarship Application Period is now open!  This year’s lineup includes 72 scholarships totaling $110,000 in tuition support.  Scholarships offered and eligibility details can be found in the attached link.  Due February 1.  Link:
The National FFA Organization provides scholarships designed to fit the diversity of our applicants. Through the National FFA Foundation, businesses and individuals sponsor scholarships that are awarded to students with a wide variety of higher education plans and career goals. Illinois Odd Fellow - Rebekah Scholarship Award
Available for all majors in college or trade school.  Agricultural related majors get separate consideration.  Use the same application, just discuss the agricultural related goals in the student essay.  Based on student essay, letters of recommendation, academics and need.  Application at    Deadline: March 1st.  At least four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students in the Carlyle and Breese area.
The Inaugural Ducks Unlimited National Scholarship program has launched and will be open for applications until March 1.  Must have a 3.0 GPA and a member of DU.  For more info:

  1. Be an Illinois High School Senior who has been accepted into a pre-approved nursing program (A copy of an acceptance letter must accompany the application.) or may already be a student in an approved School of Nursing in the State of Illinois
  2. Prove satisfactory in academic record, character, interest and activity record, and financial need.
  3. Priority will be given to the dependent of a deceased or disabled Veteran.
  4. Due March 1.

Golden Apple Scholarship (for future teachers)
Golden Apple Scholars who enter the program out of High School receive up to $23,000 in scholarships and stipend funds:
Tuition assistance of $2,500 per year for freshmen and sophomore years and $5,000 per year for junior and senior years (paid directly to the Scholar's undergraduate institution)
Scholars also receive a $2,000 stipend for participation in each of four residential Summer Institute experiences
Comprehensive job placement program that assists Scholars in finding employment during and after college
Mentoring during the beginning years of teaching
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (DACAmented student) and resident of Illinois.
  • Graduate high school in 2019

Profiles in Courage Essay Contest Topic:

  • Describe and analyze an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917, the year John F. Kennedy was born. Include an analysis of the obstacles, risks, and consequences associated with the act. The essay may concern an issue at the local, state, national, or international level.
  • The contest deadline is January 18, 2019.
  • Essays can be no more than 1,000 words but must be a minimum of 700 words. Citations and bibliography are not included in the word count.
  • Essays must be the original work of the student.
  • John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Edward M. Kennedy are not eligible subjects for essays.
  • Essays must describe an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917, the year John F. Kennedy was born. The official may have addressed an issue at the local, state, or national level. See Contest Topic and Information and Helpful Tips for Writing Your Essay for more information.
  • Essays about past recipients of the Profile in Courage Award will be disqualified unless they describe an act of political courage other than the act for which the award was given. 
  • Essays about the senators in Profiles in Courage will be disqualified.
  • Essays must have a minimum of five sources. 
Elks Legacy Awards:
Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships available to children and grandchildren of Elks members. Eligibility requirements are outlined below.
For the 2019 contest, any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2016, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2016, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2019. Great-grandchildren are not eligible.  The applicant must be a high school senior.
The applicant must apply online only. The 2019 Legacy Awards application deadline is 11:59 a.m. Central Time on Friday, February 1, 2019.
If the applicant's parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent's Elks Lodge.
Applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) by December 31, 2018.
