Logan Fruend, Macey Golder, and Makenna Reckling joined more than 80 students for
Illinois State Senator Jason Plummer’s Spring Youth Advisory Council at the Illinois State
Capitol on March 18.
Through this event, students were able to see the ways in which they can be involved
with public service at the local, state, and federal levels.
“The student advisory is a council made up of high school students. These students are
selected from Sen. Plummer’s District,” said history teacher Richard Mix.
During the day’s events, students toured the capital, created policy proposals, and
reviewed pieces of legislation.
These three students were selected by Carlyle High School history teachers for their
interest in politics and governance.
Mix said students were put into groups to discuss and create policy proposals. Students
then voted to see which pieces of legislation would be moved on to the state capital.
