Carlyle High School students in Jill Crump’s physical science class designed and built

playgrounds at the end of March.

The goal of the lab was for students to take simple machines to design playgrounds.

Students benefit from learning the different applications of simple machines.

Students used poster boards, straws, pipe cleaners, toothpicks, rubberbands, yarn, hot

glue, paper, and popsicle sticks to build their playgrounds.

Physical science students judged each others projects, and each class hour had a winner.

The winners of first hour included McKenna Salyers, Alayna Smith, Brayden Barger,

Ethan Peebles, and Austin Johnson.

Third hour winners included Gracie Lindsey, Sawyer Johnson, and Grayson Woods.

Fourth hour winners and the overall winner of all four classes included Alannah Sarclette,

Waverleigh Peters, Samantha Vohlken, and Akyra Morgan.

The winners of eighth hour included Rae Prater, Abigail Brandol, Adlee Hahs, Faith

Henkel, and NitaMarie Grieb.

“It was fun to use simple materials to build playgrounds,” said Benson Schmeink.
